Yes, a partnership has its advantages and disadvantages. Privacy is usually one of its advantages. But limitations on capital and the threat of one of these big settlements not being covered by the limited insurance available to audit firms (after all, it’s a judgement for gross negligence on the part of a firm – a partner is part of a brotherhood, not an island) is one of the big disadvantages.

I don’t think it is fair to have the whole firm take the heat when it is easy to identify the individuals who made the mistake (or intentionally looked the other way if the case may be).
